Following the divorce, Ryuchell became a vocal supporter of the LGBT community. He frequently appeared on Japanese talk shows to advocate for LGBT rights in the country and has been actively involved in organizing Tokyo Rainbow Pride since 2018.
In the last few months of his life, Ryuchell began presenting as a woman. However, he did not publicly come out as transgender, despite being photographed holding the transgender flag and expressing support for the transgender community.
