Mathis Boivin Obituary, Cause of Death, Parents

Mathis Boivin was a 15-year-old boy from Montreal who tragically passed away after consuming a synthetic opioid known as isotonitazene. This incident occurred on December 21. Mathis believed he was taking oxycontin but instead ingested isotonitazene, which is more potent than fentanyl. The drug was purchased at one of Montreal’s metro stations, and Mathis took a single dose before going to bed. He died in his sleep, and his family found him the next morning.

Mathis Boivin Cause of Death

Mathis’ father, Christian Boivin, has spoken out about the tragedy, emphasizing the dangers of synthetic opioids and the risk of overdose. The Montreal Public Health Department had previously issued an overdose alert for a substance resembling oxycodone but containing isotonitazene. This synthetic opioid has been found in the post-mortem toxicological tests of several individuals since 2020. The family is now raising awareness about the risks associated with drug use, especially among teenagers who might be curious about experimenting with substances.

Mathis Boivin’s family and friends conducted a memorial service on January 5, 2024, to honor his memory. In addition to mourning their loss, they are actively working to increase public awareness about the dangers of synthetic opioids, aiming to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
