Josiah Michael Goecker, a 34-year-old man who served as a community director, ARM, and mentor at Weidner Apartment Homes in Anchorage, Alaska:
Josiah Michael Goecker Shooting Incident
The incident took place on Monday, October 23, 2023, at approximately 3:45 p.m. It occurred at the Alpine Apartments in Midtown Anchorage, where Josiah Michael Goecker was visiting the leasing office.
An unidentified tenant of the apartment complex entered the leasing office with a firearm and threatened a female staff member. The motives behind this act, as well as the identity of the tenant, remain undisclosed.
Despite being off-duty and unarmed, Josiah Michael Goecker courageously attempted to mediate and defuse the situation. Tragically, the tenant fired multiple shots into his chest.
Subsequently, the tenant retreated to his own apartment and barricaded himself inside. Law enforcement, including the police and SWAT team, arrived at the scene and made efforts to engage the tenant in negotiations, but received no response.
At around 4 p.m., a gunshot was heard emanating from the tenant’s apartment. Upon entering, the authorities discovered the tenant deceased from a self-inflicted wound.
Josiah Michael Goecker was rushed to the Providence Alaska Medical Center, where, regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries. He is survived by his pregnant wife, Carrie, his daughter, Livie, and his unborn baby girl.
Josiah Goecker is remembered as a compassionate, selfless individual who had a deep love for his family and was dedicated to his profession. He also served as a mentor and role model for numerous individuals in the community.
In honor of Mr. Goecker’s memory and to assist his grieving family with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been established. As of October 25, 2023, it has garnered over $31,000 in donations.
