Bulelwa Mkutukana, affectionately known as Zahara, passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 36. Born on November 9, 1988, in East London, South Africa, to Nokhaya and Mlamli Mkutukana, Zahara was the sixth of seven siblings and showcased her vocal prowess in both Xhosa and English.
Her musical journey included the release of five albums, with “Loliwe” achieving double platinum status in 2011. In addition to her musical accomplishments, Zahara served as a guest judge on Idols South Africa in 2021.
Zahara had a younger brother, Dakota, and a younger sister, Morgan. Tragically, Dakota was murdered in East London in 2014, leading Zahara into a period of deep depression.
A devout Lutheran, Zahara resided in New Germany, Minnesota, and Bulelwa Mkutukana remained unmarried without any children.
