Ayana Marie Paul, a 24-year-old student at North Carolina Central University and an active-duty member of the U.S. Navy, tragically lost her life in a car accident on September 29, 2023, in Virginia Beach.
Ayana Paul was passionately pursuing a degree in recreation administration, with aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer. She also served her country with pride and honor as an operations specialist in the Navy. Ayana’s loving parents, Laurence Paul and LaKenya Paul, and her beloved pet, Yana, were an integral part of her life. Her father, Laurence Paul, was dedicated to his work with the U.S. Navy.
Originally from San Diego, California, Ayana transferred to NCCU in August 2023. Her peers and instructors held her in high regard, recognizing her unwavering dedication to her studies and military service. Ayana was not only a devoted daughter, sister, and girlfriend but also a cherished friend to many who are currently mourning her untimely departure.
NCCU released a heartfelt statement, extending their deepest condolences and sorrow for the tragic loss of Ayana Marie Paul. She will be fondly remembered by the NCCU community, her friends, and her family.

On September 29th, we received the devastating news of the car accident in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in which our daughter, Ayana Paul, lost her life. She was just 24 years old, and Ayana Paul untimely passing is a grievous burden to bear. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated by the authorities, making this loss even harder to comprehend.
